When donation fits
Donation fits best when the owner wants out more than they want the last dollar, when carrying costs are mounting, or when the boat needs work that no buyer will pay for.
How referrals work
Have the owner call us or complete the form. We review the boat, arrange the move, and handle the documentation. The owner receives Form 1098-C after the sale.
Resale
Many donated boats are sold through brokers. If a boat you referred comes to market, we are glad to talk about working with you on the resale.
Why some listings stall
Older boats, oversupplied models, and boats with known repair needs can sit for a season or more. Owners keep paying slip fees and insurance while the price drops.
Talking with a seller about donation
Frame it as another exit: the owner stops paying carrying costs, avoids further price cuts, and receives a deduction based on the eventual sale. Some owners are relieved to hear it.
Documentation
Most brokered boats are documented. We handle the bill of sale and NVDC transfer, and any mortgage satisfaction.
Questions
Do you pay referral fees?
No. We do not pay referral fees.
Can the boat stay listed while we review it?
Yes. Nothing changes until the owner agrees to donate.
What sizes do you accept?
From small runabouts to large yachts. Larger boats get individual review.
Will you list the boat with us after it is donated?
We consider working with the referring broker when it makes sense for the sale.
Do you accept boats outside the U.S.?
Yes, case by case. Most donations we take are in the 50 states, where U.S. donors can claim a tax deduction, but we also accept boats in other countries when the boat and the logistics make sense. Tell us where it is and we will say what's possible.
