Donate a boat in Vermont
Vermont boating centers on Lake Champlain, with Burlington, Malletts Bay, and the islands, plus smaller lakes like Memphremagog, Willoughby, and Bomoseen. Seasons are short and storage is long.
Vermont rules for a boat donation
Registration
The Vermont DMV registers boats. Titles depend on the boat; we confirm with you.
Trailers
Trailers are registered through the DMV.
Out-of-state owners
Champlain boats may be registered in New York or Quebec.
Lost title or registration
The owner on record can usually get a duplicate from Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. If the boat was never retitled after a sale, or the owner has passed away, tell us and we will point you to the right forms.
Coast Guard documented vessels
Documented boats transfer through the National Vessel Documentation Center with a bill of sale, not a Vermont title. Some documented boats are also registered with the state for use here.
