Titled boats
You sign the seller section of the title and date it. Some states require the signature to be notarized or the sale price to be listed. We complete the buyer section and file with the state.
Registration-only states
In states that do not title boats, you sign a bill of sale and give us the current registration. We handle the new registration.
Documented vessels
For a Coast Guard documented boat, you sign a bill of sale and we file the transfer with the National Vessel Documentation Center.
Trailers and outboards
A trailer often has its own title or registration. A few states title outboard motors separately. Each needs its own signature.
Common signing mistakes
- Signing in the wrong section
- Crossing out or using correction fluid
- Leaving out a co-owner's signature
- Writing the wrong date
If you make a mistake
Do not try to fix it. Tell us, and we will explain what your state accepts, which may be a correction form or a duplicate title.
Keeping a record
Take a photo of the signed title or bill of sale before you hand it over. It is your proof of the transfer date.
