Donate a boat in South Dakota

South Dakota boating follows the Missouri River reservoirs: Lake Oahe, Lake Sharpe, Lake Francis Case, and Lewis and Clark Lake, plus the glacial lakes of the northeast. Walleye boats are the norm.

Registration and titles
South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks registers boats, with titles handled through county treasurers where required. We confirm what applies to yours.
Trailers
Trailers are registered at county treasurers.
Aquatic invasive species
Rules affect launching, not donating.
Lost title or registration
The owner on record can usually get a duplicate from South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. If the boat was never retitled after a sale, or the owner has passed away, tell us and we will point you to the right forms.
Coast Guard documented vessels
Documented boats transfer through the National Vessel Documentation Center with a bill of sale, not a South Dakota title. Some documented boats are also registered with the state for use here.
