Donate a boat in New Mexico

New Mexico boating happens on a handful of large reservoirs: Elephant Butte and Caballo in the south, Navajo Lake in the northwest, and Conchas, Ute, and Cochiti. Low water in dry years means many boats sit in storage for whole seasons.

New Mexico rules for a boat donation

TITLING AND REGISTRATION AGENCY
New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division
Visit the agency site
Titles and registration
The New Mexico MVD handles boat titles and registration, with New Mexico State Parks managing boating rules. What applies depends on the boat; we confirm with you.
Aquatic invasive species
Inspections apply at many lakes when launching.
Trailers
Trailers are registered through the MVD.
Lost title or registration
The owner on record can usually get a duplicate from New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division. If the boat was never retitled after a sale, or the owner has passed away, tell us and we will point you to the right forms.
Coast Guard documented vessels
Documented boats transfer through the National Vessel Documentation Center with a bill of sale, not a New Mexico title. Some documented boats are also registered with the state for use here.
